This position requires an energetic, idealistic, and competent individual, with at least five years of teaching experience and, preferably, a master’s degree. Especially important character traits include an entrepreneurial approach to work, a positive attitude toward innovation, and a deep belief in our ability to find ways to improve what we are doing in the fields of education and human (including parent) development.
In addition to overseeing curriculum, the director manages enrollment, parent relations, staffing, the facility, and finances. There are a total of eight teachers to be managed. In addition to promoting academic excellence, the school emphasizes foreign languages (Chinese, Spanish), the arts, writing, and ethical behavior.
Compensation and benefits are modest by Silicon Valley standards, but competitive for schools. They include a salary, with vacation, sick, medical, dental, retirement, and many other benefits, such as sabbaticals and a discount on child care and education. It is expected that applicants will either live in the San Francisco Bay Area or already be in the process of relocating to the area. We do not reimburse travel or relocation expenses.

About Hacienda School
We are a small, independent, private Montessori school (grades 1-8) in Pleasanton and we are seeking a dedicated, well-educated director and head of school. While seasoned Montessori professional candidates are preferred, full consideration will be given to the right candidate without a formal Montessori background.
The student environment is unlike traditional classrooms. Students work individually at private cubicles, small-group tables, and seminar tables. Teachers never work alone, but in team groups. Head teachers have significant non-teaching time to fulfill their management and preparation duties, which include responsibility for the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of academic and other student development. (Currently, the school is operating both on site and online.)
