Position Summary:  Responsible for full implementation and teaching of a Montessori multi-grade level elementary classroom.  Will work cooperatively with school staff to implement a cohesive program.  Responsible for implementing program description, diversity plan, program evaluation in line with school district policy, procedure, and school board direction.  Will support Montessori education for parents, teaching staff and administration.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education. Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) elementary training and certification/diploma, 6-12 (grades 1-6).  Valid Alaska teaching certificate with elementary education endorsement, or closely related field.

Preferred Requirements: Master’s degree in education preferred. Experience teaching in an AMI Montessori elementary environment and working with parents, parent boards, school boards, and administration. Experience in team or cooperative teaching.

About Montessori Borealis Public School

Our school of approximately 200 students age 3 through 8th grade is starting its 27th year as part of the Juneau School District. All classroom guides are AMI-trained and hold Alaska teaching certificates. We have one Children's House classroom, 3 younger elementary classrooms, 3 older elementary classrooms, and an adolescent community. We draw students from throughout the Juneau community as a school of choice in the district. Our school building is located along Gastineau Channel and allows students the opportunity to engage in our larger Juneau community in a variety of ways.
