Upper Elementary Lead Teacher (4th – 6th grade)

 

Steamboat Montessori is a public charter school currently in our fifth year serving students and their families.  All employees of Steamboat Montessori work together to achieve our school’s mission and vision. We seek teachers who are collaborative with colleagues, empathetic in their relationships with students and families, and willing to work above and beyond their job description in order to ensure success for all students.  Teachers possess a school-wide focus and draw upon the relationships in their classrooms in order to create a unified community.

Responsibilities:

 

·         Develops and implement curriculum according to curriculum guidelines of the Montessori method, Steamboat Montessori, and the Colorado Academic Standards.

·         Maintains ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the needs of students.

·         Demonstrates understanding of and ability to implement Montessori teaching strategies plus a broad repertoire of teaching strategies that honor varied needs of children.

·         Assesses student performance frequently and objectively and implements effective record keeping system of student progress in line with Montessori best practices and school-wide policies.

·         Prepares an environment in which the furnishings and materials are complete and correspond to the needs of the group; for maintaining a clear, orderly, and attractive Montessori environment, including the care and maintenance of classroom materials and equipment, and maintaining inventory of classroom materials

·         Creates an environment that demonstrates rapport with and respect and kindness for all students, as well as between students. The teacher will model and teach conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies in the classroom.

·         Facilitates resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents

·         Accepts full responsibility for the safety of the children left in his / her charge until dismissed to a responsible adult.

·         The teacher will participate in a regular evaluation process including classroom observations, feedback conferences, and an annual self-evaluation toward goals set by the teacher and / or in conjunction with the Head of School

·         Participates in professional development activities (both within the school community and via attendance at conferences, workshops, etc.

·         Establishes relationships and regularly communicates with parents of students and maintains regular communication with parents regarding their child’s progress

·         Provides for parent conferences, meetings and communication throughout the school year in accordance with school policy and procedures.

 

Required Qualifications and experience:

 

·         A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university (Master’s preferred)

·         AMS certified at the appropriate grade level or working towards certification

·         Strong written and oral communication skills

·         Strong interpersonal skills with both children and adults

·         Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and other professionals

·         Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction

·         Entrepreneurial outlook and charter school commitment
